Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was named after the founder and first president of United Arab emirates, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Construction began in 1996 and was completed in 2007 at a cost of AED 2.5 billion, a little less then a billion USD. The design is inspired by Persian, Mughal, and Moorish architecture. It can accommodate 40,000 worshipers. The carpet was made by Iranian carpet makers, measures over 60,000 sq. ft., weighs 35 tons and took two years to make.
