Obi Castle down the coast from Miyazaki in southern Miyazaki Prefecture, not far from the city of Nichinan, was first occupied in 1458 by the Shimazu clan who wanted to keep the Ito clan out. That didn't work and the Ito bullies took over in 1485. It took the Shimazu a 100 years to retake the castle in 1577 but it didn't work again and they lost the castle to Hideyoshi Toyotomi and the Ido clan for the last time in 1587. This is when the town of Obi was started.
